In November 2014, Berkeley became the first US city to pass a measure taxing distributors of soda and other sugary drinks. One year later, Berkeley’s soda tax has generated over $1.5 million for community nutrition and health efforts! Concerned about skyrocketing type 2 diabetes rates among children, many communities throughout the United States and the world are now considering soda tax measures
What many don’t know is that 6 TOLA fellows and 3 TOLA alums were instrumental in creating the daily focus and discipline to train volunteers and prepare them to take on the industry.
Below is a link to Berkeley vs. Big Soda, a short film that tells the story of how a community stood up for children’s health against one of the world’s most powerful industries – and won. WATCH the film and help grow the movement by passing it on to others.
Thank you for you continued support.
